Courtyard by Marriott is celebrating 30 years of operation, but the brand was Marriott’s “biggest risk”, according to Bill Marriott.
Celebrations will involve guests and those who celebrate the same birthday as Courtyard will also receive a surprise gift.
The brand’s 30,000 staff will also be celebrating internally, but everyone is invited to follow hashtag #Courtyard30 to join in on the festivities, the company said.

“Launching the Courtyard brand was our biggest risk and also our biggest reward,” said Bill Marriott, Marriott International’s executive chairman and chairman of the board. “I’m so proud of what Courtyard has become but even more proud of where it is taking our industry.
“Thirty years ago, our hotels catered to guests who were all about work and more work. We have innovated steadily to meet our guests’ changing needs and their desire for more options and flexibility during their stay. The response has been significant,” he added.
In the Middle East, Courtyard by Marriott Doha City Centre celebrations centred around a family fun day. Media, key bookers and hotel residents were invited to celebrate the brands milestone with a series of activities in the hotel as well as cupcake gifting to event attendees.
In preparation for the November anniversary celebration and introduction of recent renovations, Andre Saade, general manager of Courtyard by Marriott Dubai Green Community said the brand was created with the business traveller in mind.
“Today, Courtyard’s 1000 hotels have shifted to accommodate a growing number of leisure travellers and families,” he continued.
“We are very excited to see the brand getting fresher with time; we are presenting many innovations with our hotel’s renovation. The lobby is stylishly redesigned and introduces many tech features, including the GO-Board where guests can read the latest news, find weather forecasts, explore local attractions and get directions – all at the touch of a screen.”
The brand currently boasts nearly 1,000 hotels in 38 countries with more than 30,000 associates.
