Hotelier Middle East has launched the 2014 edition of the annual Hotelier Salary Survey with new questions on topical issues in the region.

Now in its sixth year, the survey is open to all levels of hospitality professional working in the Middle East hotel business.

This year, a new section on recent events has been added to seek out opinions on how Dubai’s Expo 2020 win and the Qatar Fifa World Cup may influence salaries throughout the region.

The survey results will highlight pay scales, job satisfaction, company loyalty and market sentiment in the industry.

Last year, 338 hoteliers completed the survey and revealed a number of positive trends, including wage increases among lower paid workers and overall confidence in the industry.

Pay rises were a trend with 81.7% of respondents having received a hike in salary in the prior two years, and 52.3% within the previous 12 months.

The 2013 results also showed that job satisfaction was at an all-time high since the survey began, with 24% of people saying that they feel they’re in the right job, a 6% increase on the previous year’s results and a huge increase from 2010, when only 6.3% of respondents claimed to be happy with their jobs.

With confidence having largely recovered following the economic crisis and the Arab Spring of 2011, and with Expo 2020 and the Qatar Fifa World Cup now on the horizon, this year’s survey may reveal even greater optimism across the board.
