A section of Jumeirah Corniche, a walkway extending along 14 kilometres of Dubai’s coast, is opening up to the public today.

The two kilometre stretch goes from Dubai Sailing Club up to a point adjacent to the Dubai Municipality’s Center at Umm Suqeim.

The entire walkway, which starts from the backyard of the Dubai Marine Resort and goes up to Burj Al Arab Hotel, is expected to be fully open by next October. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the completion rate in the entire project has exceeded 70%.

Comprising a walk measuring five meters in width and a jogging track measuring four meters in width, Jumeirah Corniche also has rest-houses fitted with commercial kiosks, shaded benches overlooking the beach, and public and health facilities.

Special attention has also been paid to landscaping and plantation works, as well as decorative lighting decorative lighting.

"The Jumeirah Corniche will divert the sandy beaches to a vital venue through adding decorative and entertainment elements as well as public services for the beach visitors amongst residents and tourists who flock to the Dubai beaches to enjoy sitting beside the sea or practicing walking or jogging," said RTA Traffic and Roads Agency director of roads Nabeel Mohammed Salih.
