A man has pleaded guilty to an attack on three Emirati sisters at a London hotel earlier this year which left them critically injured, although he is denying attempted murder.

Philip Spence, 32, admitted three counts of grievous bodily harm at Southwark Crown Court in London last week. His trial for attempted murder is expected to begin today, according to Press Association.

The incident on April 6 saw Ohoud, Kohloud and Fatima al-Najar, who were visiting from the UAE, attacked with a claw hammer at the four-star Cumberland Hotel in the heart of London.

Ohoud Al Najjar, 34, suffered life-threatening head injuries and lost her left eye in the attack. Earlier this year doctors said she has been left with only 5% brain function.

Her sisters Khuloud, 36, and Fatima, 31, also suffered serious injuries, including skull fractures. The three had been visiting London for shopping and sightseeing.

Spence and a second man, Thomas Efremi, 57, are each facing one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. Efremi pleaded guilty to fraud at an earlier hearing after withdrawing thousands of pounds using stolen credit cards.

It is believed £1000 of goods were stolen in the attack.
