Steigenberger Hotel Group has delivered a strong vote of confidence in the recovery of the Egyptian hospitality sector by signing two more hotels in the country.

The German company has taken over operation of the existing Cecil Hotel in Alexandria, owned by EGOTH, with immediate effect. The property, until recently operated by Accor under the Sofitel brand, has 86 rooms and three à la carte restaurants, three bars, meeting rooms and a gym.

Meanwhile, from July 2016 the Hotel Tahrir Square in Cairo, owned by HOTAC, will operate under the Steigenberger name. It has 295 rooms, including 12 suites, as well as five conference rooms, a large banqueting hall, and gym and beauty spa facilities.

“Following the signing of Management Agreements for projects in China, Doha and Dubai, the two major cities of Egypt are an ideal addition to our portfolio of hotels at attractive locations,” said Steigenberger Hotels CEO Puneet Chhatwal.
