A man has been found guilty of attempting to murder three Emirati sisters in an horrific hammer attack at a London hotel earlier this year.

The verdict was handed down to 32-year-old Philip Spence at Southwark Crown Court yesterday. As well as three counts of attempted murder, he was also found guilty of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, Press Association reports.

The incident took place on April 6 at the four-star Cumberland Hotel while the three sisters were sleeping with their young children. Spence fled the scene with iPads, gold jewellery and mobile phones.

One of the victims, Ohoud Al-Najjar, 34, was injured so badly that she has just 5% brain power left, can no longer speak and has lost one eye.

Her two sisters Khulood, 36, and Fatima, 31, also suffered life threatening injuries and are still having to receive medical treatment.

Judge Anthony Leonard QC has warned Spence that he could now face life in prison for the attack.

Another defendant, Neofitos "Thomas" Efremi, 57, was also found guilty of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. Both men will be sentenced on November 17.
