Hilton Worldwide has signed agreements for its first two properties in Europe under Curio – A Collection by Hilton, which was launched last year.
Reichshof Hamburg and Rumeli Han Istanbul are both historic landmark hotels dating back more than 100 years each. They will undergo major renovation and restoration and are set to open in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
Launched in June 2014, Curio offers upper upscale and luxury independent hotels the opportunity to partner with Hilton Worldwide while maintaining their distinct identity and local charm.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide said: "Europe offers a prime growth opportunity for Curio owing to its concentration of quality independent hotels.
“Reichshof Hamburg and Rumeli Han Istanbul are iconic properties which, by joining Curio - A Collection by Hilton, will maintain their unique characters, underpinned by Hilton's commercial engine and global reputation."

Reichshof Hamburg is owned and operated by RH Operations GmbH & Co. KG, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cologne based Event Hotels. Located directly opposite Hamburg Central Station, the hotel was built in 1910 and is inspired by Hamburg’s maritime history with an art deco façade and a panelled restaurant.
The hotel is currently undergoing a €30 million renovation, which will see its exterior returned to its original appearance and a new contemporary interior created.
Reichshof Hamburg’s renovation is due for completion in Q2 2015. It will have 280 rooms and suites, 11 meeting rooms and a 177 square metre ballroom.
Anders Braks, CEO of Event Hotels said: “An affiliation with Curio - A Collection by Hilton seems like the natural choice for Reichshof Hamburg; it will allow us to maintain the hotel's revived iconic charm and reference to its long history in Hamburg while at the same time the hotel will benefit from the strong Hilton distribution and loyalty systems."
Rumeli Han Istanbul will feature 173 rooms spread over seven floors and a number of F&B outlets, including a rooftop bar and restaurant, offering views over the city. It will be subject to a renovation programme prior to opening in 2017.
Dianna Vaughan, global head, Curio - A Collection by Hilton, said: “Since launching Curio less than a year ago, the reception from owners and guests has been incredible, and our maiden hotels in Europe join five hotels currently trading and more than 20 in the pipeline or with signed letters of intent across the world."
The first Curio properties have been established in North America; in Las Vegas, Dallas and Florida.
Curio - A Collection by Hilton will make its Middle East debut in Qatar. The 207-key hotel will be in the Mall of Qatar and Hilton is partnering with investors Al Jaryan Trading & Contracting on the project.
