Langham Hospitality Group, which is set to open its first property in the Middle East on Palm Jumeirah in 2016, has announced it is in negotiations for more properties in the region.

One hotel is being discussed for a second city location in Dubai and the company is in talks for properties in Doha and Abu Dhabi, with six – eight properties targeted in the region by 2020.

"With Dubai we have aspirations and we’re in close discussions to do another property in Dubai. That will be different – it will be from the Langham family and it won’t be on the Palm,” revealed Duncan Palmer, managing director – The Langham London, Regional Vice President, Europe, Langham Hospitality Group during an interview with Hotelier Middle East.

“I think not far away from the size we’ve got now and it will compliment quite well. In additions to that we’re also in negotiations and close talks for opportunities in Abu Dhabi and also Doha.

“We have aspirations to position ourselves in the Middle East. We haven’t yet in Europe, we want to tackle the Middle East first as we think that’s more important at this particular juncture.

“We’re well positioned out of Asia, we’ve made a considerable investment to build our company and we’ve done it with a degree of thought and careful evolution over the last ten years so we’re now ready to give developers and owners a credible quality and a credible brand, whether they want to enter at five star or four star.”

The company’s first Middle East property, Langham Palm Jumeirah Resort was due to open in 2015, but Palmer confirms the property is now set for a 2016 opening.

The 323-room resort, being developed by DAS Real Estate will have 53 one- and two-bedroom suites that range from 63 to 236 square metres; 22 of them will feature individual plunge pools.

As well as being the Hong Kong-based hotel group’s first foray into the Middle East, it will also be the company’s first resort in its global collection.

The resort's interiors will be designed by Aedas Limited and, with its waterfront directly facing the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai Marina skyline, all rooms and suites will have outdoor terraces and sea-front views.
