Formerly called the Palace Gallia, the rebranded and refurbished Excelsior Hotel Gallia has been opened in Milan as a result of a partnership between Qatar’s Katara Hospitality and Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

The 1932 Milanese hotel is owned by the Qatari group and will be operated by Starwood under a management agreement signed last week.

The hotel is in the Puorto Nuovo district in the Piazza Duca d’Aosta and has undergone extensive restoration and also had a new wing added.

H.E. Sheikh Nawaf Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani, Chairman, Katara Hospitality, said: “We always embrace the local spirit wherever we invest in hotel assets around the world and the Excelsior Hotel Gallia in Milan is no exception. We have made a major investment to bring this grand property back to its true glory.

“Today, it gives us great pleasure to share our Italian flagship property with Starwood Hotels & Resorts.”

The 235-room property features a signature restaurant, a cigar lounge, a lounge bar and over 1,000sqm of fitness facilities. The hotel will host weddings and conferences in its two elegant ballrooms and myriad meeting spaces.
