Roberto’s bagged one of the most desirable awards at the 2015 Caterer Middle East Awards - the Restaurant Team of the Year –Independent Outlet title.

Other contestants in the running included Casa de Tapas, Hakkasan Doha, Inakaya Abu Dhabi, Qbara Restaurant and the noodle house - Dubai Mall.

They team met judges’ approval for it works together to boost performance, enhance the F&B offer and raise the bar. They have been consistently improving itself over the last year, and wowing its guests with its inventive dishes, stellar service and memorable experiences

Moreover, the jury was impressed that the team did not take its initial flush of success for granted. Innovating and upgrading itself over the last year through new menus and initiatives to cater to different markets, the restaurant built itself a continuous stream of repeat customers, as well as achieving a reduction in food costs, and increasing sales by 17%.

Commenting on how it manages to keep the team and guests happy, Skelmore Hospitality Group chief executive officer Rene Dietsche said: “The leaders are hands on, and march up front. And the relationship continues beyond work as well, and extends to gym, football, etcetera. It is very important to gel the team for the numbers of hours you work, especially for a restaurant with 140 people. The secret is that they can work together, argue together, forgive together and progress together.

“Guests come back because they feel welcomed. Many call the chef, restaurant manager or servers to make reservation instead of the reservation centre. We have 50% repeat customers on a slow night and 75-80% on a busy night.

Roberto’s team was presented the award by Baqer Mohebi head - Horeca division S Padmanabhan.

The Caterer Middle East Awards were held at Atlantis, The Palm on June 10.
