After being named the first runner-up in 2014, the culinary team of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek won the champion trophy for the best Culinary Team of the Show.

Chef Uwe Micheel said he was proud of the group of young chefs who scored full marks at the show, with 25 medals won out of 25 entries. The team had 25 entries in the 14 different classes of the event and was award 11 Gold, seven Silver and seven bronze medals.

Sudath Rodrigo, assistant pastry chef, won four Gold medals, and also bagged the trophy for the Best Pastry Chef for his work in four different categories: Petite Four and Friandise, 3 Plated International Dessert, 3 plated desserts with Emirati Flavour, and Best Cake in the Live Cake Decoration.

Rahil Rathod won the trophy as the Best Gastronomist for his work in the Best Live Cooking and the 3 Course Plated Gourmet Menu Class. Rathod scored highest in both classes: the static display menu where the international jury was focusing on combination and presentation, and the live cooking class where the focus was on taste, beside hygiene, creativity, kitchen skills and presentation.

The hotel's ex-sous chef Diyan Manjula who led the team as the team manager said the result was fantastic, but the big challenge would be even better next year.

Micheel added: "Yes it’s great to win, but the main focus of the culinary competition is not the medals and trophies. Of course, it is great motivation and as well a payback for respective hotels and restaurants, but the focus is on training, sharing experiences, learning from each other. "

He continued: "I tell the young chefs before the culinary competition to relax, enjoy and put their heart and passion into the work."

The East Coast International Culinary Event has grown into the third biggest culinary competition in the region. Chefs from more than 40 establishments in the UAE attend, as well as visiting chefs from six other countries.

The fourth edition of the event was held on June 8-9, 2015, organised by the Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort and the Emirates Culinary Guild.
