Toko Dubai is hosting the Japanese Star Festival (Tanabata) for the first time this year, and celebrations started June 17, 2015.

This is in the lead up to the festival, which traditionally takes place on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar.

In honour of the holy month of Ramadan and in keeping with Star Festival customs, Toko's guests can join the festivities at sunset by writing down their wishes on strips of colourful paper called tanzaku and then hanging them up on the branches of a bonsai tree.

These handmade creations will adorn the illuminated bonsai tree, welcoming guests at the main entrance of the restaurant.

“It is the first time we are hosting Star Festival at Toko and we are excited to give guests the opportunity to partake in the festival by hanging up their wishes while enjoying their favourite Toko dishes,”said general manager Tony Lina.

On July 7, a wish will be picked from the tree where a guest stands a chance to win a dinner for four.
