The tiny desert country, which has kicked up a fuss due to issues surrounding summer World Cup games, which it will host in 2022, has had to unsuccessful bids for 2016 and 2020, and has subsequently announced it will withdraw from further bids.

Included in the competing cities to host the 2024 summer Olympic Games are Los Angeles, Hamburg, Rome, Budapest and Paris.

The International Olympic Committee will elect a winner at a vote in Lima, Peru, in September 2017.

Despite Doha’s failure to make the list for the 2016 and 2020 games, organisers said they consider the comments from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the country’s previous bids.

"We will continue on that path and we will continue to bid," the Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said back in 2012. "Every time we bid, we are listening and learning to see how we can make our bid stronger."
