Dubai Sports City has announced plans for a new wellness element with launch of The Cube condo hotel and "sports-medical-spa" concept.

The Cube is being developed by German company BMG Group, which has appointed Schletterer Wellness & Spa Design to design and project manage the spa area.

Schletterer Wellness & Spa Design regional director UAE/GCC Dr Gerald Huber said the project reflected the company's aim to bring the holistic health message to the UAE.

"That is exactly what is missing here," he said.

"What we are trying to bring here is that combination of experiences not only to give you a nicer look but to change your lifestyle, supported with training facilities, high altitude training, salt treatments for better skin, magnesium therapies etc," said Huber.

The 3000m² wellness and spa area will offer a cardio area, weight training, kinesis, physiotherapy services and oxygen infusions, plus an infinity treatment pool, signature sport and wellbeing treatments, ceremony treatment suites and a 4 Senses Spa Zone.

Specialist spa facilities are set to include serail, herbal, steam and salt inhalation baths, cosmetic and Ayurveda treatments and a holistic thermal and refreshing zone with bio sauna, laconium and a floating sound pool.

Huber added: "The medical wellness development in the global tourism industry can't be ignored anymore. There will be multifunctional concepts which offer a number of treatments and therefore are top cost-efficient. Spa equipment shall increasingly address all senses, must be state-of-the art and blends in with the whole concept.

"In the future those spa concepts will succeed which focus on preventative health care. Medical examinations will soon be part of medical spas," he asserted.

The Cube, billed as Dubai's only sports hotel, is set to be completed by the start of 2010.
