Declining arrivals coming from Eastern Europe account for largest fall in total tourism figures.

The number of tourists arriving in Egypt fell by 9.3% to 802,000 between September 2014 and 2015, according to a statement issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The drop in tourist numbers, down from 883,900 arrivals during the same month last year, was mainly driven by the decline in arrivals coming from Eastern Europe, followed by the Middle East and Africa.

Figures show that Eastern Europe is the first source destination for tourists, accounting for 38.3%, followed by Western Europe at 34.1%, then the Middle East at 17.3% and Africa 4.3%.

German tourists rank first in terms of number of tourists and account for 32.8%, followed by the United Kingdom with 27.5%, then Italy with 7.6%. The total number of tourists visiting from EU countries reached 278,200.

Approximately 163,600 Arab tourists arrived in September, with Saudi Arabia ranking first place accounting for 29.7%. Libya followed with 13.4%, then Jordan with 12.1% and Sudan with 9.5%.
