Lebanon’s Ministry of Tourism has revealed the number of tourists to Lebanon recorded an annual increase of 14.1% in the first 11 months of 2015.

The latest figures from Lebanon’s Ministry of Tourism indicate an annual tourist arrival increase of 14.1% in the first 11 months of 2015, compared with an increase of 5.1% for the same period during 2014.

Lebanon’s tourism sector began the year tackling a downturn largely due to crises in its neighbouring countries, however Colliers International forecasted hotel occupancy figures to rise to 49%, with a rise in tourism receipts by 7.9% (estimated value US$6.4 billion) in 2015.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Tourism said Europeans made up the largest number of tourists to Lebanon and accounted for 33.5% of arrivals, followed by Arab tourists who accounted for 31.6%.

Overall tourism in Lebanon, in the period between December 28, 2015 and January 3, 2016, saw an increase in tourist numbers from all continents on an annual basis, reports local media.

The total number of incoming tourists to Lebanon amounted to 1.394 million in the first 11 months of 2015, compared with 1.221m recorded during the same period of 2014.
