Beaches across the emirate of Dubai have been fitted with disability-friendly facilities, signalling the beginning of a process to make all public services accessible to people with disabilities.

Beaches across Dubai have been fitted with disability-friendly facilities, according to a senior official of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality.

Alya Abdul Rahim Harmoudi, director of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, said that access ramps for wheelchairs were installed at the beaches of Mamzar, Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim 1 and 2.

Harmoudi said that the public beaches in Dubai today has become one of the most important public facilities in the city and is a popular destination for residents and tourists alike.

Disability-friendly facilities at beaches and other public areas will contribute towards making the emirate a destination of choice for a greater number of tourists.

As part of plans to attract 20 million arrivals by 2020, Dubai aims to make all public services accessible to people with disabilities.
