Colliers International has estimated that Qatar’s hospitality sector is expected to register growth of 27% rising to 23,000 keys by the end of the current year.
A total of 1,460 keys opened in 2015 in Qatar, equalling close to 19,000 hotel and service apartment keys in Qatar at present, according to Colliers International.
“The growth in keys from 2015 to 2016 will be around 27%,” said Colliers International director head of hotels MENA region Filippo Sona, speaking at Arabian Hotel Investment Conference (AHIC) Business Briefing.

The most recent openings included properties such as the DoubleTree by Hilton Doha Old Town and the Shangri-La Hotel Doha.
The influx of openings in 2016 can partly be attributed to delays in opening some hotels slated for 2015 that were pushed to the first and second quarter of 2016.
Supply is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9% in Qatar.
“Due to a dip in oil prices and slowing economic activity, Doha experienced a slow growth in corporate demand in 2015. This trend is expected to continue in the coming year, with Doha hotel RevPAR forecasted to decrease by 4% in 2016,” said Sona.
