The UAE's food imports will reach US $400bn in 10 years, from $100bn in 2014, according to the UAE Ministry of Economy.

Speaking about this forecast at Gulfood 2016, Unikai Foods' CEO, Neeraj Vohra, said the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company is "looking to be an integral catalyst in national growth."

He also noted that FMCG products play a key role in boosting the UAE economy and that “the FMCG market holds huge potential" for the company, which expanded its operations in 2015 to cover nearly 200 routes across UAE and Oman on a daily basis. 

The Middle East currently imports about $35bn of food annually and the GCC region imports about 90% of it food.
