Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort completed an extensive charity mission in Sri Lanka, as part of its ongoing commitment to community causes.
The hotel supported the Kalamusu Kedella Children’s Home with almost US $20,000 worth of donations. Three members of the management team returned earlier this month from the orphanage after spending a week with the children and inaugurated a brand new facility for them.
The facility houses more than 50 boys and girls between the ages of four-17. Initially, the home was built to care for children who lost their families in the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and later continued to work with children affected by domestic violence, abuse and abandonment.
Through its partnership with the orphanage, Sheraton Abu Dhabi sponsored the home with supplies and improvement projects. This includes building and furnishing a brand new dining hall. The hotel also purchased sewing machines and paid for classes of a professional seamstress, a new set of clothes and bed linen were purchased along with a TV, DVD player and popular kids’ movies.
The hotel’s team comprised of Judith Pasztor Duffy, director of marketing, Jorge Guisasola, director of guest services and Rui Maroto, director of engineering.
Commenting on the programme, Judith Pasztor Duffy said: “While we were busy organising all the supplies for the home in the mornings, the afternoons were all about the children. Arts and crafts sessions, joyful sing-alongs and dances, cricket matches and a lot of games made our time unforgettable at Kalamusu Kedella. We had been showered with thanks by the children, but we definitely brought back more in our hearts than what we carried over as donation.”
