Ras Al Khaimah tourism authorities expect more than 3700 additional hotel rooms to be added to the emirates' inventory, with visitor numbers tipped to hit 2.5 million by 2012.

According to Hotelier Middle East’s upcoming developments list, international and large regional operators dominate the planned developments, with brands such as Banyan Tree, Rotana, Radisson SAS, Hilton, Coral and Golden Tulip all looking to get in on the action.

Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority chief executive Khater Massaad said hotel development in the emirate “has jumped to a new level”.

“It is also part of our strategy to keep watch for unique and innovative hotel operators in a bid to diversify our portfolio of hotels in the emirate,” Dr Massaad said.

“There is still so much room for expansion in this sector and we are looking forward to establishing partnerships with more world-renowned hotel brands in the future.”
