Construction work has started on a major new hotel and apartments complex in the Diplomatic Quarter of Riyadh, reported Arabian Business.

Under the patronage of Prince Faisal bin Bandar, developer Dur Hospitality celebrated laying the foundation stone of the Riyadh Marriott Hotel Diplomatic Quarter and Marriott Executive Apartments Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter.

The hotel will be a 5-star, fully-serviced property standing on a 25,000 sq m plot of land, with 80 rooms and 140 executive apartments.

It will also feature a restaurant, a banquet hall with a capacity of 400 guests, a fitness centre, and a parking lot with a capacity of 215 cars.

Both properties are expected to open in 2018, adding to Marriott International's existing offering in Riyadh.

Alex Kyriakidis, president and managing director for Middle East & Africa, Marriott International, said: "We continue to see huge potential for growth in the kingdom, and today's ceremony to lay the first foundation stone in our next property, in partnership with Dur Hospitality, is testament to this.

"The location of this property is strategic and will attract both business and leisure guests, as it sits in the heart of Riyadh."
