Emirati couple Nawal Al Nuaimi and Ahmed Almazrouei launched bakery and café concept Paper Fig in Sharjah with the help of the Khalifa Fund.
Paper Fig has now been operating for one year, growing to over 35 employees in this time. Due to the café's success and popularity with the local Sharjah market, the owners will shortly be launching a new kitchen and extension to the venue, due to open this month.
Later this year, Paper Fig will also expand its catering arm with the introduction of Paper Fig Gift Line and Paper Fig Catering.
“I started a small business in 2010 called Mini Treats, a home-based desserts company that served customers all over the UAE. By 2014, Mini Treats had turned into something far beyond my expectations, and I was working on order requests of 800 dessert pieces per day,” Paper Figs co-founder Nawal Al Nuaimi told Caterer Middle East.
“With the support of my husband Ahmed, we starting looking for a larger centralised kitchen from which I could work from in Sharjah.”
“One year down the line, we are now about to enter a new phase of Paper Fig, with the opening of a new kitchen and extension to the café in March 2016.
"I am working on a new menu right now, and also focusing my energies on two new elements to our business, which will be launching later this year – the Paper Fig Gift Line and Paper Fig Catering."
