Iran progresses towards 2% target share of world tourism income.

Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (CHTHO) vice president and head Masoud Soltanifar said that last year five million foreign tourists visited Iran, spending $7.5bn to $8bn US dollars.

Soltanifar made the remarks in a ceremony on improved services in 29 Iranian airports.

'Iran has currently only a 0.5% share of the world tourism income, but we intend to gain a 2% share of that income by the year 2025,' he said.

Soltanifar added that although Iran still ranks 47th among 50 countries with tourism attractions, in terms of earning foreign currency from tourism Iran ranks at 36th place.

Iran intends to attract 20 million tourists in the year 2025.
