Terrorists have killed 16 people during an attack on hotel guests on the Grand-Bassam Riviera, in the Ivory Coast, reported The New York Times.

The attacks took place on Sunday March 13, targeting guests at three beach resort hotels in the Grand-Bassam area, approximately 30 miles from the Ivory Coast's capital city Abidjan.

The three hotels were L’Etoile du Sud, the Wharf Hotel and Koral Beach.

The attackers opened fire at tourists on the beach, killing 14 civilians, and two members of the Ivory Coast’s Special Forces in the process. Six gunmen were also killed in the incident.

The incident follows the attack on Hotel Splendid in Burkino Faso in January, where 28 were killed.
