Budget and mid-market hospitality offerings are the core of Oman’s future strategic tourism plans.

Oman’s Ministry of Tourism is targeting the ‘growing global trend’ for budget and mid-market hospitality, according to Oman Ministry of Tourism director general of tourism promotion Salim Al Mamari.

“No doubt, there is absolutely a growing market for economy accommodation, and Oman’s national tourism strategy was designed and approved to take into consideration one- two- and three-star hotel growth,” said Al Mamari in an exclusive interview with Hotelier Express.

“The global trend in tourism is changing, of course there is still a five-star market – but now, even tourists with high levels of disposable income are seeking something new from their vacations.

“The budget and mid-market hospitality sector will offer authenticity – this is what we are taking into consideration with our future plans,” said Al Mamari.

Speaking of the Oman Ministry of Tourism’s strategy for facilitating investment in the budget and mid-market hospitality sector, Al Mamari said: “We are now giving priority for investors to invest in the economy hospitality sector, especially local investors.”

“We go beyond standard hotels, to allow guest houses of no more than ten rooms, and even people who own farms can convert these buildings into hospitality accommodation.”

Al Mamari added that while the budget and mid-market hospitality growth is market driven, Oman Ministry of Tourism will be activating a marketing strategy to further promote the countries growth in economy hospitality offerings.

A full interview with Oman Ministry of Tourism director general of tourism promotion Salim Al Mamari will feature in next month’s issue of Hotelier Express.
