Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) is connecting with the British business community with the aim of highlighting projects and investment opportunities in the emirate.

Shurooq held a business forum in London recently to introduce UK-based investors to prospective investment opportunities in Sharjah.

The event focused on sectors that had witnessed sustainable growth year-on-year, targeting British companies operating in the fields of health, the environment, tourism, logistics and education.

Shaikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, chairperson of Shurooq, headed up the event, which included speeches, presentations, panel discussions.

She said that there are 170 flights weekly between the two countries, with more than 50,000 Emiratis visiting the UK every year, which helps to pave the way for expanding avenues of cooperation between the two regions.

"In recent years, our trade has grown to be in the billions of dirhams. We believe it will keep growing. However, we measure our success as trade partners not only by the financial return on investment, but also by the impact we have on each other in terms of creating employment opportunities, creating innovation platforms, and creating lasting social impact,” Bodour commented.

She concluded: "Our leadership's strategy is clear and Sharjah's economic progress must be balanced with respect to our cultural heritage and with social progress. The result is a stable and diversified economy."
