Passenger traffic at the Abu Dhabi International Airport was up 9.5% in Q1 this year from Q1 2015 to 6,044,025 passengers, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).

“Traffic rose over the first three months of 2016 between the UK, Thailand, the USA and several other countries,” WAM quoted Abu Dhabi Airports chief operations officer Ahmad Al Haddabi as saying.

The top-five destinations in Q1 were Bangkok, Thailand; London, UK; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Doha, Qatar; and New Deli, India.

Routes to India were the busiest in Q1, with over 1 million passengers, up 27% from Q1 2015, while routes to Italy saw the biggest growth in passenger traffic, at 62%.

In March alone, the Abu Dhabi airport handled over 2 million passengers, up 5.6% from March 2015.
