Hilton was selected as one of the 2016 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For, by global research and consulting firm Great Place to Work and Fortune Magazine.

Hotelier Middle East spoke to Koray Genckul, senior director, human resources, Hilton Worldwide Middle East & Africa and Turkey in an attempt to understand a few of the near century old operator’s workings.

“Our position as the top hospitality company to work for in the UAE is down to our team of professionals, who are increasingly motivated by the strong career prospects and the positive work environment that comes with a role with Hilton Worldwide,” Genckul told Hotelier.

He also said that Hilton ranked in the overall top 10 companies in the Emirates and he shared why it was the case: “We have 97 years of experience managing hotels around the world – with a presence in the UAE for more than 40 years. We merge our local insights with our global expertise to provide learning and development programmes, such as access to Hilton Worldwide University; an online resource offering in excess of 2,500 learning opportunities across e-learning, webinars, eBooks and articles.”

He added: “We do not only look to recruit the best leadership talent in the industry, but also our success in promoting talent within our organisation through training schemes, to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Our fast track graduate training scheme, Elevator, aims to prepare the best graduates for the top by bringing together a practical and unique mix of business, hotel and people management skills.”

Genckul also told Hotelier Middle East that options are always kept open for employees working in the UAE. “With the UAE home to a transient workforce, we offer our team members global career opportunities through Hilton Worldwide’s international presence, to ensure they enjoy experiences across our brand portfolio.”

Finally, Genckul says that keeping up with technology has ensured staff remain pleased. “We are on the pulse with digital innovation, with our digital check-in and room selection capabilities. As the industry progresses and adapts to the world today, it’s this pioneering approach that attracts and retains the very best talent in the industry.”
