Istanbul has been rocked in recent time by multiple terrorist attacks but veteran hotelier and general manager of St Regis Istanbul believes the capital’s tourism will not be hampered for too long.
Reis told Hotelier Middle East exclusively: “In March, 2016 our figures were down 20% as compared to the same month last year in our luxury comp set. It’s a huge decrease and difference from last year.”
He added: “If we are running at an average of about 55% occupancy in our segment today, last year we were running at about 75%-78%. I would expect this to change in the next couple of months – in the month of May our segment should be about 70%. In June we have Ramadan, of course."
Reis also said that the OIC Istanbul Summit held from April 14-15, along with several other events throughout the year, will help bounce tourism back to what it was operating at not too long ago.
