The Hotelier Middle East Executive Housekeeper Forum took place last week at Grosvenor House Dubai.
During the conference, room division manager Radison Blu Residence Dubai Marina Anushya Paramasivam gave a presentation on ways to incorporate sustainability in housekeeping.
During the session, delegates discussed the best options available to housekeepers for recycling and donating used linen. Since this has charitable and environmental benefits, many executive housekeepers at the event offered suggestions on how their hotel has donated old linen in the past.
Tatjana Ahmed of Grand Hyatt Dubai gave the example of her housekeeping team. They sold all old linen and towels at a Dubai-based flea market. The event raised approximately AED800, which was donated to the Nepal Earthquake appeal. Ahmed added that the money raised can also be used to do something for your team.
Other housekeepers suggested talking to the hotel’s CSR rep, to contact Dubai labour camps and distribute linen to workers at the camps.
