As Abu Dhabi seeks to welcome 7.9 million annual tourists to the region by 2030, with an estimated 74,000 hotel rooms required to host the expected arrivals, the demand for mid-market accommodation in the UAE capital is heating up, industry experts say.

According to Khaleej Times, whilst preparing for its  showcase of hospitality projects for the upcoming Cityscape Abu Dhabi from 18th to 20th April at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, international architectural and design practice Godwin Austen Johnson (GAJ) is observing a developmental shift in Abu Dhabi towards more mid-market brands and price points.

GAJ partner Simon Chambers said: "Abu Dhabi is already home to a number of luxury hotels but if the capital is to develop its tourism product to meet the forecasted figures by 2030, it will need to continue building its portfolio of affordable business and city hotels."

He added: "The Middle East shows consistent year-on-year growth and we are confident that the number of business and leisure travellers across the region will grow in line with booming economies, calling for more accessible quality hotels."

The Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture recorded more than 4.4 million guest arrivals in the capital in 2016, an eight per cent growth over 2015, with figures expected to rise further in 2017.The rising number of tourists is expected to spur demand for affordable quality mid-market hotels and short-term holiday rentals such as Airbnb and serviced apartments.
