Downtown Muscat. Downtown Muscat.

Oman Hotels & Tourism Co. is planning to develop ten new three- and four-star hotels in the sultanate within next five years, according to Muscat Daily.

The report adds that the company’s board has formulated a five-year business plan that will meet future requirements of the industry with new hotel products.

But it isn't the only company opening new hotels in Oman. Marriott International is planning on opening four new hotels in Oman in the next five years, a senior official said on Thursday. Marriott International currently operates three properties in the Sultanate, with more than 700 rooms, The Times of Oman reported.

Oman Ministry of Tourism (MoT) also announced the opening of three new budget hotels in Muscat during the first half of 2017.

Hotelier Middle East previously reported that Oman's star hotels revenues fell 8% to $137.6mn (OMR52.98) million in the first quarter of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015.
