Hotel revenues reach BD3.7 million ($9.81 million) during last weekend's Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, officials have revealed, according to a report in ArabianBusiness.com.
The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority also said that 12,000 hotel rooms were booked by race fans in the Gulf kingdom.
It added that the total occupancy rate of five star hotels reached 89% for the event, which is one of the biggest in Bahrain's calendar. No comparison figures from 2016's F1 event were given.
Sheikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa, CEO of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, said: “We are pleased with the positive results achieved by the tourism sector during the Formula One season. We hope that the coming F1 season brings further success; reflecting the kingdom’s positive image internationally and contributing to the development of the local economy.
"Our strategy is focused on strengthening Bahrain's position as a destination that is able to host leading international events. Such events, demonstrate Bahrain's potential and infrastructure where the investors’ confidence is firmly established, therefore the authority seeks to best serve these events,” he added.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel grabbed victory in Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix, ahead of Mercedes team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
