Minor International has appointed Naim Maadad as the new managing director for Minor Spa Global, and Hotels Middle East.

Maadad's time will be split between managing the global spa business - MSpa International - and developing the company's resorts in the Middle East.

Initially he will be based at the MSpa headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, before moving to Dubai in 2009.

"Dubai is a hub at the moment and I know the region reasonably well. It makes perfect sense at this point in time," said Maadad, who was previously managing director Middle East for Six Senses Resorts & Spas.

Responsible for setting the direction of the business and driving growth, Maadad will oversee brand positioning and future requirements, both of current and new brands.

He said: "My aim within MSpa International is to make it a wellness company rather than a spa company.

"Everyone's so over-worked that really taking that time out will become precious and make all the difference. Hopefully, I'll try to shift from spa managers to wellness managers and people who can actually help you focus on how to get a better lifestyle," added Maadad.

MSpa International operates the Anantara Spa and Aequalis brands, as well having franchise contracts for Mandara Spa in Cambodia, Egypt, India, Jordan, Laos, Myanmar, the People's Republic of China (including Macau), Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

The company currently operates around 40 spas, with 21 projects coming up, revealed Maadad.
