Reiner Lupfer has been appointed as the new executive chef at Shangri-La Hotel and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi.
Bringing more than two decades of culinary expertise, Lupfer acquired his culinary degree from Claude Dornier Hotel Management & Culinary Institute of Germany in 1999.
At the age of 23, he was at the helm of Hotel Restaurant Heinzler when it was awarded one Michelin star and 16 points in the Guild Gault Millau. The accolades led to Lupfer's first overseas posting as chef tournant in Bermuda, followed by a stint as chef de cuisine in Scotland.
In his new role in Abu Dhabi, Lupfer will lead the culinary team of both Shangri-La and Traders hotels in the Qaryat Al Beri complex, overseeing 10 restaurants and bars, 10 banquet and conference spaces, and in-room dining.
Lupfer has been exploring the hotel industry across Asia and the Middle East since 2007, overseeing the kitchen operations of multiple food and beverage outlets at hotels in countries like Bahrain, China, Malaysia and Thailand. During his tenure in China, Lupfer helmed culinary operations for the 2016 G20 Hangzhou summit delegation.
