Dubai-based interior designer, Maliha Nishat, has joined Marriott’s Global Design team as its new director of interior design to overlook projects for the MEA region from concept to completion, designMENA reports.
“It is an exciting time as I have made an informed decision to switch over to the operations side, but still be involved in the exceptional creativity and design focus of hospitality design,” Nishat tells designMENA.
Former design director of dwp Dubai office will be managing design for renovation and new development projects in the region while working closely with interior design firms and ensuring Marriott’s standards are followed.

“Although my role as a designer will be limited with my new role, I will be working closely with some of the region’s leading interior designers from an operations stand point,” she says. “I look forward for some great collaboration with some of the industry’s best.”
Today with the acquisition of Starwood, Marriott’s lodging portfolio totals more than 5700+ properties across 30 brands making Marriott the largest hotel operator in the world.
As a division, Global Design creates design strategies, new design concepts, specifications and standards, as well as procurement of materials and ensuring consistency across all brands.
“That means using research, trends and our design and innovation expertise to understand our customer’s unspoken needs and desires to deliver hotels that are meaningful,” she adds.
For her previous work at dwp, Nishat won 2015 CID Interior Designer of the Year Award. This year, she joins the event as one of the judges.
