Iconic British store Fortnum and Mason has shut it's doors in Dubai. The brand known for it's tea and baked goods was located between the Address Downtown hotel and the Burj Khalifa near The Dubai Mall.

Local media reports the store closed on July 7, 2017.

It was their first store in the Middle East. According to our 2014 report, the store was opened in partnership with Middle East conglomerate Al Khayyat Investments.

The ground floor was the retail space, and resembled the famous Fortnum food hall, consisting of tea, biscuits, jams, sweetmeats and chocolates. Daily in-store tastings of jam and tea took place and customers were able to choose from a range of hampers as well as create their own with the 'Bespoke Hamper Service'.

On the first floor was 'The Tea Salon', inspired by the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon in Piccadilly London. The top floor consisted of the 'Ice Cream Parlour', where Fortnum's signature ice cream, the Knickerbocker Glory, was served.

Fortnum & Mason is one of London’s most famous department stores for luxury food items and British favourite, afternoon tea. It is also one of the world’s oldest, having first opened its doors in Piccadilly, London in 1707.

The store also courted controversy when it scrapped plans to sell foie gras at its Dubai outlet after James Bond star Sir Roger Moore called for a boycott of the store over its sale of the product.
