A Middle Eastern consultancy firm is aiming to confront the drink market’s current economic woes at its annual beverage conference later this month.

As the credit crunch takes a turn for the worse, the IMES Consulting Beverage Conference at Crown Plaza Dubai will focus on defensive strategies while also seeking out opportunities for potential growth.

IMES Consulting director Thorsten Hartmann said the Arab beverage market “attracts a great deal of attention” but added it is not “immune” to the downturn.

The event on January 20th will give beverage professionals from inside and outside the region the chance to debate the industry issues with input from a selection of speakers.

The 2008 conference last January was declared a success by the consultancy firm despite taking place on an unexpected National Holiday to mark outgoing US President George W. Bush’s visit to the emirate.

As an incentive for beverage professionals to join the conference Hartmann declared participation fees for delegates were not being raised from last year’s prices.

“Last year’s event demonstrated the need for a conference based around practical, hard-hitting, profit-orientated ideas rather than self-congratulatory gala dinners,” he added.
