Michele Millot was named Housekeeper of the Year at the Hotelier Middle East Awards 2017 for achievements in her role as executive housekeeper at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

A hospitality professional with more than 20 years of experience in rooms/housekeeping, Millot started her career with Disneyland Paris in 1994 and continued with Banyan Tree Hotel Maldives, Maldives Hilton, The Plantation Club Resort & Casino Seychelles, and Radisson Plaza Beach Mauritius before moving to Dubai to join Accor World Trade Centre Dubai in 2003.

In her career with Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Millot has supported local SMEs, focused on involving children through kids’ turndown amenities, as well as improved room attendant quality work experience by introducing a customised motorised trolley after analysing work flow for five months.

The highly commended in this category was Yahya Al Bawardi, executive housekeeper, InterContinental Riyadh, whom judges felt had done a lot to further the attractiveness of housekeeping as a career to Saudi nationals.

The other top nominees in this category were: Amartya Chakraborty, cluster executive housekeeper, Ramada Downtown Dubai and Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Dubai; Chandra Illanperuma, director of housekeeping, Palazzo Versace Dubai; Deepu Kundra, executive housekeeper, Fairmont Ajman; Hari Sudhakar, executive housekeeper, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort; Kishore Kumar Pemmasani, executive housekeeper, Hilton Dubai The Walk; and Winston Chedalada, executive housekeeper, Al Maha Arjaan by Rotana.

Elated over winning the award, and why the judges picked her, Millot said: “Housekeeping is a big family and my duty is to take care of my people and to ease their work in any way possible to make them more efficient and productive. I can up with an innovative idea to introduce to the UAE a motorised trolley for our team. We have some colleagues who are of small build, so by developing this kind of equipment the work is made easier and the quality of work is also enhanced.”

Millot also said that the award is a contribution of her work of 25 years to the field of housekeeping. Adding: “My aim is always to make guests more comfortable, to have the 'wow' effect, and also to promote the housekeeping department, which is always behind the scenes.”

The Housekeeper of the Year category was sponsored by Diversey Gulf and presented by sales leader Sherif Fahmy.

The event was supported by a number of industry partners, including silver sponsor SNS Haute Couture Furniture, category sponsors SIAL Middle East, A.
