The title of Hotel Engineer of the Year 2017 at the Hotelier Middle East Awards has been awarded to Satish Patil, who is the director of engineering at the Fairmont Dubai.

Having been with the property since pre-opening in 2001, Patil rose through the ranks to oversee the entire property a few years ago.

His work has resulted in substantial savings for the hotel, while never compromising on guest experience. His projects, as well as colleague-engagement in energy conservation in the accommodation of 400 colleagues have been recognised on a global level.

He told Hotelier after winning the award: “Fairmont Dubai has always tried to reduce its carbon footprint by any means. It may be reducing water or electricity consumption and we have been successful in doing so.”

The winning hotel engineer said that economic considerations are important in any business, and in addition to reducing carbon footprint, his initiatives have also helped save money for the property.

Patil added that, although his role comes with challenges, he has been able to overcome them: “The main challenge is saving without compromising the guests’ comfort but we have been successful while maintaining our standards and implementing sustainable practices.”

Patil, who received his award from Jung Middle East managing director Tarek Zakaria, concluded by saying: “Thank you to my Fairmont team and thank you to Hotelier Middle East.”
