Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) has announced plans to launch a series of firework spectaculars off its beaches over the next two months.

The programme, which started on Wednesday as part of the 46th National Day celebrations, will run every Thursday until January 25, 2018.

The displays are part of an initiative by ATDD to attract tourists and enrich their experience in Ajman, a statement said.

The fireworks will be set off from two platforms in the sea in front of Ajman hotels and will be accompanied by a backdrop of rousing music streaming from the seafront hotels.

Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of Ajman Tourism Development Department, said: “We decided to launch fireworks every Thursday to enhance the stay of weekend visitors to Ajman and for those who stay in the emirate’s hotels.

"We see a significant leap in hotel occupancy rates during the weekends and want to bring more value to guests. The next phase of the initiative to attract tourists to Ajman will witness many events to bring happiness and joy to visitors, residents, and citizen of the Emirate, as well as providing new experiences to enjoy with families.”

Ajman Tourism is aiming to ambitiously multiply its visitor numbers by 2021. Ajman Tourism general manager Faisal Al Nuaimi said in 2016: “We are optimistic, we hope to attract five million visitors by 2020. We had 950,000 tourists in 2015 and we aim to increase that by 20% by the end of this year.”
