Centro Sharjah participated in the 16th edition of the 'Clean Up UAE 2017' campaign organised by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) as part of the hotel’s social responsibility initiatives.
The' Clean Up UAE' campaign is a nationwide environmental drive that brings together volunteers to create awareness and promote environmental sustainability. Centro Sharjah team geared up at the Nad Al Sheba site where they collected and segregated all types of garbage. A total of 21,750kg of garbage was collected through the campaign.
Centro Sharjah also took part in the Emirates Environmental Group's can recycling collection campaign. A total of 38.5 kg of recycled cans was collected from the hotel during the months of September and October.
“We are always glad to support EEG in its environmental initiatives. Taking part in clean-up campaigns reinforces awareness of our environment and its sustainability and presents us with an opportunity to take action and better the community we live and operate in”, said Centro Sharjah general manager Michael Kasch.
Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) is a professional working group devoted to protecting the environment through the means of education, action programmes and community involvement. It is the first environmental NGO in the world to be ISO 14001 certified and has an accredited status to the United Nations Convention to Combating Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). EEG is the member of the UN Global Compact, the International Union of Conservation for Nature (IUCN) and the GEF-CSO Network.
