Dubai receiving more Chinese travellers than ever before. Dubai receiving more Chinese travellers than ever before.

Chinese travellers are going abroad in big numbers and it’s to celebrate their coming New Year – the Year of the Dog.

Latest figures from ForwardKeys, which predicts future travels by analysing 17 million flight booking transactions a day, says daily international departures is 11% higher than that registered on a comparable period last year.

ForwardKeys’ finding show that travellers will begin to peak from February 10 to February 14, ahead of the Chinese New Year (February 16) and the following Golden Week holiday.

While Chinese tourists are heading to various regions across the world, globally Asia Pacific is in the lead with a market share of 76%. Other parts like The Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East are also showing steady growth, the report said.

In Asia Pacific, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan lead as the top three destination countries. In regards to fastest growing destinations, New Zealand tops the list, ahead by 30% compared to last year. Vietnam takes the second place with 22.5% growth and Hong Kong at 18.3% growth ahead of last year.

ForwardKeys CEO and co-founder Olivier Jager said: “The Chinese are enjoying more and more foreign travel as their outlook becomes increasingly international. It means that businesses have an excellent opportunity to provide services and goods to a growing Chinese clientele that is increasingly demanding and affluent. Purchases made en route play a big part in Chinese activity when travelling, which is why our latest figures will be of particular interest to global and duty-free retailers.”

Dubai, also ahead 34%, is witnessing more Chinese travellers than ever before, the report said.
