UAE to issue day visas to transit passengers UAE to issue day visas to transit passengers

The UAE cabinet has approved a new general policy that will issue day entry visas for transit passengers at all airports in the UAE.

The cabinet that worked on the policy was led by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship

The new policy, according to a report by WAM, is being put in place to boost the tourism sector and the country’s economy by allowing tourists to visit major landmarks in the UAE during their lengthy layovers.

In 2017, Dubai International Airport (DXB) retained its position as the number one airport in the world for international passengers for a fourth consecutive year with traffic volumes reaching to an average of 7.35 million passengers per month.

Nearly 70% of the total passengers who passed through UAE’s airports in 2017 were transiting, the report stated. The new policy will include visa fees, mechanisms for increasing the number of stop-over visitors, and also different approaches to promote and attract transit passengers to the key leisure attractions, the report added.
