Safety & Security Person of the Year
Mahdi Juma Alwail Alsuwaidi, director of security, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates

How has winning the hotelier award impacted your career?

I was extremely honoured when I won the award, this confirmed to me that my approach to Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, the way I engage with the staff and the way we treat our guests, stands out. As a UAE national, the award has not only made me respected among my peers but has brought me much closer to government entities like Dubai Police and Civil Defence who contacted me after the award to assist them in various projects, and above all, it gave me added motivation for all my efforts to ensure the safety of our staff, guests and our beautiful property.

Are you still at the same hotel?

Working with a reputable brand like Kempinski and a great team at Kempinski Hotel MOE is fulfilling. This explains why I have been part of its management team for 13 years and counting.

What advice would you give other hoteliers hoping to win an award?

Make good relations with all government security entities such as Dubai Police, Civil Defence and others. Being aware of the latest security developments, the urge to learn more, and using foreign expertise are important things. Working with passion, gaining trust from your general manager, heads of departments and the entire team is the best recipe for smooth operations.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I am enjoying my role as of now and I am delighted to be with Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates; however, I am working on a project to start my own security company to fully exercise my knowledge and skills acquired in the field.
