Muttya: we are looking at introducing a 200-strong membership Muttya: we are looking at introducing a 200-strong membership

The spa at Grand Hyatt Doha, due to open in April, will predominately focus on establishing a day spa business and an exclusive 200-strong membership base.

Spa director Karunanithi Muttya said: “If you look at the spa building we are standalone, that’s how I look at it, although it’s within the compound it’s not closely attached to the hotel façade”.

He said that the local market would be crucial because the hotel was primarily a business hotel.

“As a business traveller their needs are very specific, they like to go for a meeting, have a massage or have a facial treatment then really the weekend is the time that usually people travel out of the country; given that situation our capture audience for the spa area has to come from the local group,” said Muttya.

He also said the hotel would introduce an exclusive spa and health club membership.: “Like any other facility we’re here for a business purpose, but we like our guests to feel really looked after, so we are looking at a 200 membership and that’s it, we’re going to close the membership from there on.

“We want to communicate this to our customers that every membership will be screened and selected before they can become a member,” said Muttya.

The spa features 12 luxurious self-contained treatment suites, in which guests can get changed, have a shower or bath and relax. Six suites are for women, four for men, and two are couples, and there is also a separate female-only entrance to the spa. Wet facilities at the spa include a Jacuzzi, cold plunge, sauna, steam, infra-red and inhalation rooms.

The final decision on three product lines for treatments and a name for the spa has yet to be announced, added Muttya.
