The Swine Flu outbreak will have no impact on this year’s instalment of Arabian Travel Market (ATM) organiser Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) has claimed.

"At present, there has been no effect to exhibitor or visitor commitment for Arabian Travel Market 2009; and we will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend,” said RTE group exhibitions director Mark Walsh.

“We are also working very closely with the Dubai government and will take their lead on any action should it be required. As standard procedure, we have medical teams and response units in the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.”

This year’s Arabian Travel Market will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from May 5-8.

Almost 2000 companies from 66 companies will exhibit at this year’s show.

Walsh said it was too early to say how many trade visitors were anticipated this year but said he expected figures to at least hit last year’s levels (14,000).

“What was very encouraging was that last year’s event saw a 15% increase in the number of quality visitors – which are determined by purchasing power – over 2007,” he said.

“This reiterates our commitment to making sure the ‘right people’ are coming through the doors.”

He also stressed that pre-registrations for ATM 2009 were up on ATM 2008 figures.

Days one to three of ATM are dedicated to the travel trade and day three – Thursday May 7 – is Travel Agents’ Day sponsored by Arabian Travel News.

Day four – Friday May 8 – is open to consumers and this year sees the launch of ATM’s Careers Day in a bid to encourage more people to consider a career in the travel industry.
