Hotel development, management and investment company Aldar Properties said there would be life after Abu Dhabi’s F1 event for its trackside hotel project, set to open later this year

The Yas Hotel, located on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island development, is the company’s first self-managed project and will be operated by its management arm Aldar Hotels and Hospitality.

Although the property is one of seven hotels opening for the 2009 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November, Aldar Hotels and Hospitality managing director Paul Bell said he was confident that the Yas Hotel would continue to see demand after the hotly-anticipated F1 event.

"Firstly, Abu Dhabi is generating a lot of hotel projects because up to now, demand has consistently outstripped supply," he commented.

"And secondly, there are a lot of other projects under development on Yas Island aside from the race track, so these attractions will help to drive interest as well, along with the fact that we will be easy to access from town and the airport. So I think all these factors will drive business.

"I very much doubt that there’ll be the same occupancy in the first month of 2010 that there is [during the Grand Prix week], but we do not expect there to be," Bell continued.

"We do believe that there will be equilibrium, but probably not for the next four to five years."

The Yas Hotel will feature a bridge spanning the race track, which connects the main hotel building to the marina tower.

With 499 rooms and suites, the property also boasts 14 dining and entertainment options as well as 1625m² conference and banqueting space and a luxury spa, to be managed by spa design and operation firm ESPA.
