Atlantis, The Palm achieved international fame even before it opened — but with its dramatic décor and luminous lighting, the hotel’s top-end nightclub Sanctuary is a hot property in its own right

A fusion of ingenious technology, contemporary design and VIP panache, Sanctuary nightclub at Atlantis, The Palm provides a heady haven for its top-end clientele.

“Since its opening, Sanctuary has been attracting a dynamic crowd seeking to experience the ultimate in pure indulgence and Dubai nightlife,” explains Sanctuary director Manuel Ayas.

Designed by architect Jeffrey Beers, the vast 2136m² Arabic-inspired interior incorporates a range of colours, designs and textures.

“It has three distinct areas: a dance club called ‘The Main Room’, lounge area ‘The Velvet Room’ and outdoor terrace ‘The Terrace’,” elaborates Ayas.

“Each section offers its own unique and distinct experience, with all of them offering state-of-the-art sound and lighting.

“The Main Room features a sunken dance floor with a suspended circular catwalk, which plays host to various live artistic performances to entertain the guests.

“Then in the centre is the open-plan Velvet Room, marked with VIP tables and two exclusive booths lit up by a range of LED lights, which enhance and illuminate its creative features and design,” he explains.

“This area then opens up to The Terrace, a funky outdoor ‘club within a club’, where guests can chill out and enjoy shisha, along with spectacular views of Palm Jumeirah, Dubai and across the Arabian Gulf.

“As with any opening we faced many challenges, which I am proud to say we have overcome as a team,” he continues.

“In building the club, the main issue was that the majority of the décor and visual effects were flown in from across Europe, so logistically it was quite challenging.

“Our aim is for Sanctuary to become the top nightlife destination in Dubai, through playing host to a variety of world-class events and internationally-renowned DJs,” he concludes.

Entrance hall

“Upon entering Sanctuary, guests are greeted by an illuminated LED flashing wall accompanied by interactive visual displays which are projected across the walkway.”

VIP rooms

“The sunken dance floor in The Main Room is surrounded by two elevated VIP sections, creating a contemporary setting for bottle service, while The Velvet Room boasts two sophisticated exclusive booths — private spaces with high ceilings, chandeliers and LED tables.”

Dancefloor technology

“Sanctuary uses the latest innovations in light-effect technology, including rotating LED screens and moving projections throughout.”

Lighting

“The lighting programme is a complete visual extravaganza, designed to dazzle even the most well travelled guest! The dance floor features LED lighting and displays, endless projections, a fog screen and a synchronised visual EFX show.”

Outside terrace

“The Terrace is fast becoming the most sought-after location in the club, offering a more casual and relaxed atmosphere with lounge-style seating and VIP cabanas.”
